Our ADHD evaluations are designed for adults (18 years and older) who are experiencing symptoms such as difficulty concentrating, forgetfulness, disorganization, procrastination, time management challenges, impulsivity, or feeling mentally overwhelmed. Whether you've suspected ADHD for years or are just beginning to ask questions, we're here to help you gain clarity and determine the best path forward.
Your evaluation is designed to provide a thorough understanding of your symptoms—not just a diagnosis. Your assessment may include:
Comprehensive clinical interview review of medical, psychiatric, academic, and family history assessment of ADHD symptoms and daily functioning screening for anxiety, depression, trauma, and other conditions that may affect attention QbCheck® testing, when clinically appropriate personalized treatment recommendations
discussion of medication and non-medication treatment options
Many insurance plans cover comprehensive psychiatric evaluations. However, coverage varies depending on your individual insurance plan. Certain specialty services, including QbCheck® testing, will involve an additional out-of-pocket cost. Our team will review any anticipated fees with you before proceeding whenever possible.
Once your evaluation is complete, we'll review your results together and discuss your personalized treatment recommendations. Depending on your diagnosis and goals, your care plan may include medication management, psychotherapy, lifestyle modifications, executive functioning strategies, functional wellness services, or additional diagnostic testing. If ADHD is not the best explanation for your symptoms, we'll work together to identify other potential causes and create a treatment plan that best supports your mental health.
That's perfectly okay. Whether you were diagnosed in childhood or by another provider as an adult, we perform our own comprehensive clinical assessment to better understand your current symptoms, treatment history, and goals. This helps us determine the most appropriate treatment plan and ensures your care is individualized to your current needs.
Yes. Many adults reach adulthood without recognizing that ADHD may be contributing to challenges they have experienced throughout their lives. This is especially common among women and individuals whose symptoms were less disruptive or were masked by strong academic performance, structure, perfectionism, or other coping strategies. A comprehensive evaluation considers both your current symptoms and relevant developmental history.
ADHD treatment is personalized to you. Depending on your evaluation, needs, and medical history, your treatment plan may include stimulant or non-stimulant medication, behavioral and lifestyle strategies, psychotherapy recommendations, and treatment of co-occurring concerns such as anxiety or depression. Our goal is not simply to manage symptoms, but to help you function and feel better in your everyday life.
How often will I need follow-up appointments after starting treatment?
Follow-up frequency depends on your treatment plan and how you are doing. When starting or adjusting ADHD medication, appointments are typically scheduled more frequently so we can monitor effectiveness, side effects, and overall progress. Once your treatment is stable, your clinician will recommend an ongoing follow-up schedule based on your individual needs and applicable prescribing requirements.
Most ADHD evaluations begin with a comprehensive psychiatric assessment lasting approximately 60–90 minutes. Depending on your individual needs, additional testing—such as QbCheck®, an objective FDA-cleared computerized assessment—may be recommended. Once all components are complete, we'll review the findings together and develop a personalized treatment plan.
QbCheck® is an FDA-cleared, objective computerized assessment that measures attention, impulsivity, and activity levels. While it is not a standalone diagnostic test, it provides valuable clinical data that complements your psychiatric evaluation and helps us make more informed treatment recommendations when appropriate.
No. Most patients can schedule an ADHD evaluation directly without a referral. Depending on your insurance plan, a referral from your primary care provider may be required for coverage. If you're unsure, our team is happy to help verify your benefits before your appointment.
Yes. All ADHD evaluations are conducted through our secure telehealth platform, allowing you to complete your assessment from the comfort of your home. Controlled substances, including stimulant medications, are prescribed only to patients physically located in Maryland, Washington, D.C., and Virginia during their appointment, in accordance with all applicable federal and state regulations.
You may benefit from an ADHD evaluation if you experience ongoing difficulty with focus, organization, time management, procrastination, forgetfulness, impulsivity, or completing tasks—even when you’re motivated to get things done. ADHD can look different in adulthood, and many people, particularly women, develop strategies that mask their symptoms for years. An evaluation can help clarify what may be contributing to these challenges and identify the right next steps.
ADHD, anxiety, depression, and burnout can share symptoms such as difficulty concentrating, low motivation, forgetfulness, overwhelm, and trouble completing tasks. They can also occur together. At Good Mood, we look beyond a checklist of symptoms to understand the bigger picture and determine whether your concerns are best explained by ADHD, another mental health condition, or a combination of factors.
Can Good Mood take over my existing ADHD medication?
Yes, in many cases. If you have an established ADHD diagnosis and are transferring care, we will review your treatment history, previous records when available, current medications, and response to treatment. Continuation of any medication—including stimulant medication—is based on your clinician’s assessment and whether the treatment remains clinically appropriate and safe.
That information is valuable, too. The purpose of an ADHD evaluation is not simply to confirm a diagnosis—it is to better understand why you are experiencing the symptoms that brought you to us. If ADHD does not appear to be the best explanation, we will discuss your findings, explore other contributing factors, and provide recommendations for appropriate next steps.
