Mental health is deeply connected to sleep, hormones, nutrition, stress, inflammation, and overall physical health. Our Functional Wellness services are designed to identify and address underlying contributors to emotional well being through a personalized, evidence-informed approach.
At Good Mood Integrative Psychiatry, we recognize that mental heath is influenced by far more than brain chemistry alone. Hormonal fluctuations, nutritional deficiencies, chronic stress, sleep disturbances, inflammation, and lifestyle factors can all play an important role in how you feel each day.
Our Functional Wellness services complement traditional psychiatric care by helping identify potential root contributors to your symptoms and creating personalized wellness strategies that support both mental and physical health.

What is Functional Wellness, and how is it different from traditional psychiatric care?
Functional Wellness takes a whole-person approach by exploring how factors such as sleep, nutrition, stress, physical health, hormones, and lifestyle may influence your mental well-being. It is designed to complement evidence-based psychiatric care—not replace it—by identifying additional factors that may be contributing to how you feel.
We'll take a comprehensive look at your symptoms, medical and mental health history, medications and supplements, nutrition, sleep, stress, lifestyle, and wellness goals. From there, we'll develop personalized recommendations and determine whether additional evaluation or laboratory testing may be helpful.
Not necessarily. Laboratory testing is recommended when your symptoms, medical history, or clinical presentation suggest that additional information could be helpful. We believe testing should be purposeful and individualized rather than ordering extensive panels that may not be clinically necessary.
Laboratory testing can sometimes identify medical, nutritional, or metabolic factors that may be contributing to symptoms, but there is rarely a single laboratory test that explains complex mental health concerns. We interpret laboratory findings alongside your symptoms, medical history, psychiatric history, and overall clinical picture.
Are supplements safe to take with my psychiatric medications?
Not always. Supplements can have side effects and may interact with prescription medications or certain health conditions. That's why we review your current medications and supplements before making recommendations and encourage you to discuss new supplements with your healthcare provider before starting them.
Can Functional Wellness help with sleep, stress, fatigue, or burnout?
Yes. Sleep, chronic stress, physical health, nutrition, and daily habits can all influence how you feel and function. We'll explore potential contributors to your symptoms and develop practical, sustainable strategies to support your energy, resilience, sleep, and overall well-being.
Will Functional Wellness replace my primary care provider or other medical specialists?
No. Functional Wellness is not a replacement for primary or specialty medical care. When concerns fall outside the scope of our services, we'll recommend appropriate follow-up with your primary care provider, OB-GYN, endocrinologist, or another specialist.
Are Functional Wellness consultations and laboratory testing covered by insurance?
Functional Wellness consultations are offered on a cash-pay basis and are not billed to insurance.
Who can benefit from a Functional Wellness consultation?
Functional Wellness may be helpful if you're experiencing concerns such as persistent fatigue, brain fog, low energy, difficulty concentrating, sleep problems, chronic stress, burnout, or hormonal changes. It can also be appropriate if you're simply interested in taking a more proactive approach to your overall mental and physical wellness.
Do I need to be a Good Mood psychiatric patient to use Functional Wellness services?
No. Functional Wellness consultations can be used as a stand-alone service or incorporated into your ongoing psychiatric care at Good Mood. We'll help determine which approach best fits your needs and wellness goals.
What types of laboratory tests may be recommended?
Testing may evaluate areas such as thyroid function, nutritional status, metabolic health, vitamin or mineral levels, and other biomarkers relevant to your symptoms and overall health. The specific tests recommended will depend on your individual history, symptoms, medications, and wellness goals.
Yes. When appropriate, your personalized wellness plan may include evidence-informed nutrition and supplement recommendations designed to complement your overall care. Recommendations are individualized based on your health history, current medications, symptoms, and wellness goals.
Can Functional Wellness help with hormonal changes or women's mental health?
Yes. Hormonal transitions can intersect with mood, sleep, energy, cognition, and emotional well-being. Good Mood's whole-person approach can be especially helpful for women navigating concerns related to PMS, PMDD, perimenopause, menopause, and other hormonal transitions.
Absolutely. Functional Wellness is designed to complement evidence-based psychiatric treatment. Your plan may incorporate wellness strategies alongside medication management, psychotherapy, or other treatments when appropriate, creating a more comprehensive approach to your mental health.
Yes. With your permission, we can collaborate with members of your healthcare team to support a more coordinated approach to your care. This can be especially helpful when mental health symptoms overlap with hormonal, medical, nutritional, or other health concerns.
Yes. Good Mood offers virtual Functional Wellness consultations so you can receive personalized care from the comfort and privacy of home. Availability varies based on your location and the states where your Good Mood clinician is licensed to provide care.
